Toward participatory and transparent governance: reinventing government
This publication explores the prospects and challenges on the path “Towards Participatory and Transparent Governance”. It focuses on public service ethics and trust in government: government-oriented innovations to enhance state capacity: access to services for all though participation and accountability: e-government as a tool for participation and transparency: auditing for social change; representative democracy, participatory methods and capacity; development for responsible politics; corporate governance, market economy and accountability; decentralization and local autonomy for participatory democracy; and the role and capacity of civil society organizations. The publication is based on the findings of the capacity development workshop that were held in Seoul, Republic of Korea from 24-27 May 2005. These workshop formed part of the 6th Global Forum on Reinventing Government, which focused on the theme “Towards Participatory and Transparent Government”. Contributions to the publications were made by UNDESA and the other United Nations entities, international institutions and academia.
